Occupy Outer Space - Arecibo Mike - 2821: 3D Heizer

Background Music

There's a toad that lives in my throat.
He's not a good listener.
He makes me repeat myself. There's a frog that lives in my room.
He stays when everyone's gone.
He likes to keep watch.
He's alone, but he's home. I live in the throat of a frog.

-- Inspiration --

Frogs, toads, and muppets keep appearing in my life. Kermit was part of my idea for the relic from 2321. He became a character in the videos from videos from 3121. When using a random picture generator for another class, I got these pictures.

That first picture bears a striking resemblance to my Decay video from 3121.

I didn't make the connection until this week, but instead of a teddy bear, I had a frog. His name is Froggy. He's in a box in Florida right now. Nobody else is there. My parents are in Tennessee. He's alone, but he's home.

Also, I stumbled upon this video. Just listen to the first five seconds or so.

"I'm such a spoiled old toad" - Charles Bukowski
I'm aware Bukowski is extremely misogynistic. I just like gravely voices of people like him, Wilem Dafoe, and Tom Waits. Also, the animation is beautiful. This youtube channel, Blank on Blank, is great in general. I highly reccomend checking it out.

I used these panaromic pictures of my room for reference. The room's is pretty much empty now.

I used Grover again from 3121. I replaced the hallway with my Aricebo message from 3321, and I recreated the ceiling fan from 2921.

For the poem, I originally wanted to change the lyrics to Darondo's "Didn't I." That's why the second audio is there. It's the chords progression from "Didn't I" transposed down a few steps. I scrapped the idea becasue I couldn't come up with a chorus. The first audio is something I just made up.

I originally wrote the first three lines of the poem as its own piece, playing with the expression, "there's a frog in my throat." From there, I knew I wanted the poem to end with the reversal of "I live in the throat of a frog." I guess the overall point is that depsite the fact, my childhood home is completely empty, it's still home because Froggy is still there. Home is where the frog is? (Dangerously close to cliche now, aren't we?)
